Business Case Study 1:
How the Astronauts Will Write Down Notes at Zero Gravity

When NASA began the launch of astronauts into space, they found out that the pens would not work at zero gravity (ink will not flow down to the writing surface).

NASA Solution:
To solve this problem, it took NASA one decade and $12 million.  In their honour we should state that on the way to the goal they developed a pen that worked at zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on practically any surface including crystal and in a temperature range from below freezing to over 300 degrees C.

Russians’ Solution:
It took the Russians one day – they used a pencil.

Business Moral:
Focus on solutions, not on problems. The problem was never to make the pen work at zero gravity.
Always look for simple solutions.
